Carla Gilmore (Glymph) (1978)

The journey of my father, Charles Gilmore, Jr. began on October 27, 1928, born the son of the late Charlie Gilmore and Rachel Goodwin Gilmore of Santee, SC. He departed this life Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Anderson Area Medical Center, Anderson, SC, from Colon Cancer.
After moving to Seneca, he associated himself with Ebenezer Baptist Church-Seneca,SC, where he taught the Junior Sunday School Class and sang on the Senior Choir. He was a faithful member until his death. He was married to the former Margaret Carolyn Ware of Seneca, SC and from this union four children were born: Charles Winston Gilmore, Carla Lynette Gilmore Glymph, Cheryl Yvette Gilmore, and Cornell Augustine Gilmore, all who were graduates of Seneca High School.
Charles graduated from the Orangeburg County Training School in Elloree, SC. The following September, he entered South Carolina State College studying Agricultural Sciences, with the completion of his studies, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree; later he continued studies at Clemson University, where he received a Master of Science Degree.
His first job was serving as principal one or two years at Mill Branch School- North,SC. This experience led him to the foothills of SC, Oconee County, as an instructor of Agricultural Science at East End, Blue Ridge High and Seneca High Schools. During the summer months, he carried students to summer camp in Orangeburg, SC and after returning home, working in the summer cannery program was a successful joy in serving the people of Oconee County. He was a member of many other Educational Organizations. After a successful 35 years of teaching, he retired in 1985. His illness led him to become interested in other areas, such as being and agent for Liberty National Insurance. My dad saw life as a challenge filled with opportunities for love, friendship, and giving. He inspired many students to reach their goals.
He was also affiliated with the following organizations. He was a free and accepted Prince Hall Mason of the State of SC Seneca Lodge #204; member of Azzam Temple #84; consistory #239 Anderson, SC; Holy Royal Arch Mason Haggai Chapter #58- active treasurer Seneca, SC; member of Club Elegant, Seneca, SC; Past Quater Master of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5687; and a member of Future Farmers of America. Lastly, he served in the Korean War as a Clerk Typist and was awarded with an Honorable Discharge.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, three loving daughters, two sons, five grandchildren, two sisters, eight brothers, three brother-in-law, nine sister-in-laws, two uncles, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
