Ronnie McCaslin was a friend of mine and died in Redding on Feb 25, 2015. After twelve years of schooling together we were in the Army together and travelled by train to the East Coast for "after-basic" training together in 1960. Never saw him again until 1965 in Shafter. After that, the next time was in the 80's when I worked in Redding (CHP). In 1965 his dad/mom Lewis (Dude) and Viola (Vi) had bought a Redding "Dari-Delite" and moved from Shafter to Redding. Later he re-named the drive-inn "Dude's" after his nick-name. Ronnie joined his father and bought the store in 1977 after his mother's health became bad. Dude's Drive Inn became a Redding icon, very famous for cruisers and High Schoolers for lunch, being close by Enterprise HS. I would stop in on occasion for a Dude Burger and shoot the breeze with Ronnie. Ronnie ran the store until his death. Dude's is being assumed by his daughter Roxanne, the third generation of McCaslin family. She just had the 50th Anniversary celebration on the same day in August that Grand-Father Dude took over ownership in 1965. If you're ever in Redding, stop by for a Dude burger and shake. Give Ronnie a thought as you enjoy!....This is one quick life we're in, so slow down a little and enjoy the whatever!  I swear, HS was like 3 weeks and my 35+ yrs as a CHP was like 10.
