David was a man who moved through his life to the beat of his own drummer. He knew what his beliefs were

and didn't care if others understood him. He was generous to share his views if you asked him to speak on his beliefs. His generosity extended beyond speaking freely about what he was passionate about. David cared deeply about humanity's suffering and did what he could to help people in need. When he was in his twenties, David practiced a form of Buddhist meditation and lived a quiet life in a tropical country of Sri Lanka. He also studied gemsand went in the field searching for gems in local streams and caves.Upon his return to the United States, David settled down in Nashville, David made a living driving a taxi cab around the city.Countless people had the pleasure of unusual and interesting conversations in his cab. David transported many Vanderbilt students and was able to act as "big brother" to many young people offering his innate wisdom and humor to any conversation,
