Hey all you Cooper poopers, do these names bring back memories?

kin. Mrs. Kudurko
1st Mrs. Reiderer
2nd Mrs. Seifert. Her daughter taught at Urban.
3rd. Mrs. Adams
4th Mrs. Lautenschlager
5th Mrs. Dowd.

Then we got screwed on being B.M.O.C. in elementary school because we became the first sixth graders at the new middle schools.

You know what I remember about Cooper, Travis! Rob Leonard, YOU, and Jill Klein wounldn't walk to school with me!...scarred for life! I had to walk all by myself. I'd never let my 5 year old walk that far alone! What the hell were our parents thinking?!?!

I definitely remember:

Mrs. Kudurko - kindergarten
Mrs. Lynch - 1st grade(I think she spanked a kid, Harvey Heitzmann?? in my class and then was gone the 2nd half of the year and had Mrs. Barenscott (LOVED HER!!!) the other half.
Mrs. Held (2nd grade)
Moved to St. D's in 3rd grade - I remember the first day because my teacher, Mrs. Lightcap, thought I was in the wrong class because I was almost as tall as she was!!

I Loved Cooper~ I wish I could go and take a tour thru there or something. It has been soooo long. The teachers were great...What was the principals name? He was really nice and he had a grand daughter named Jennifer so he was really nice to me. I remember bringing him a cupcake and a candy cane for my birthday treat. Tracy Dickfoss, Tammy Miller and some other girls and I had an awesome "singing group". We would sing in the "cubbies" outside at recess. Remember our cheers we used to cheer at recess?? Yikes.... That seems like a million years ago. Then walking home from school thru the woods betweed Tammy Millers house and mine was awesome. Now it is a bunch of houses, but there used to be some fun times in that woods.

O.K. I had to bite. The Cooper years were pretty good. Travis, it looks like I had you in class most years. Kudurko-K, Barenscott-1st, Held-2nd, Adams-3rd, Lautenschlager-4th, Dowd-5th. Oh, the memories. Anyone for a little 4-square, Pitzens rules. I don't even remember what the rule was anymore, but do for some reason remember that one. Jenny, you mention the woods. I knew every square inch of that place. We had some great memories running around in there, building forts and catching tadpoles in the swamp. What fun.

Had to tell all the ladies out there that I saw Rick Springfield on Friday! We took our kids to see DANNY GOKEY's hometown concert on Friday, (yes, we are cool parents) and guess who they brought out on the stage at summerfest to say hello...good old Ricky boy. He looked pretty good if I do say so myself. I don't know if they just did that to appease all the Mom's there with their screaming children, but hey, it worked for me.

Looking forward to next month.

Hey guys~ time is running out. If you have registered for the class reunion~ check in on your friends and make sure they plan on attending as well. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as we can. Its very casual and just meant to allow us all to have some good laughs. You won't be disappointed.

Hey, fellow Cooper gang! This chat got me interested enough to chat along! I think that was the most fun about our 10 year reunion for me was reconnecting with many of the Cooper gang! Lots of good memories there and at North! Urban a little bit more of a blur! Yes, my parents still live on Cooper Ave. 55 years in same house! My mom marvels at how nobody walks to school anymore. The cars line her street every day. She still enjoys opening her door to see the kids. Many first day of school pictures on the front steps with Jenny Hinze, Dawn Grimm, Tammy Miller, Tracy Dickfoss, Debbie Dana, Kris Zastrow, etc. Could go home each day for lunch--buttered noodles! I live close to my kids' school, but now they don't have enough time to do that! My kids go to school with Heidi Grotbeck's (Erik's sister) kids. She still recalls her bike accident in front of our house, my mom called the ambulance and having her splean removed. Heidi is a teacher at Cooper now!

My husband and kids have had activities in the new Cooper gym and played soccer on the Cooper field. Principal was Mr. Gesch--great guy! Remember he'd bring stuff in from his muskrat or mink farm?
What was the office lady's name again? Mrs. Manchen? I remember fondly the girls singing group at recess! I sometimes go to lunch with my kids at their school and what chaos at recess--the screaming! Certainly didn't seem like it when we were that young! Ha-ha!
I remember Tammy's woods too and the great green color of her hair in her pool, many fun sleep overs. My kids are now getting into sleepovers. Funny!
Here are some other oldies but goodies.
Mrs. Rilling the librarian -- she goes to our church
Mrs. Kudirko subbed for my Adam's class when he was in 4k. Do you remember..."Here's one foot, here are two, they are wearing new shoes, stand up, turn around, dance around the floor. These new shoes are Lori's."
I remember in Kindergarten Andrea Schmitz getting to go on a plane to see her sister in Colorado I think, I was very jealous of her.
Mrs. Behrenscott also goes to our church and still calls me by name. I have introduced my kids to her each time they are in first grade. I was then moved to Mrs. Reinhardt's class. I remember getting in trouble (the only time, ha-ha!) for Kris Korff and I chucking an eraser across the room to each other. Speaking of Kris, we (and Rachel Dillenburg) grew up as neighborhood buddies and had lots of fun with sprinklers, popsicles, ice skating, the Smurfs and all (they are coming back!) Some years ago I bumped into Kris in the mall on my birthday, it was such a sweet surprise that she wished me a happy one without me even reminding her. Speaking of birthdays, Troy Pool was another neighborhood friend, born the day after me. Now we live a block from his parents, and they recently put up a pool again! Ironic that Troy married someone I went to Carroll College with!
I had Mrs. Seifert 2nd grade but see Mrs. Held around at church too. I think it was that year I got my long hair cut.
Mrs. Adams was great too. She lived in the neighborhood and I babysat for her kids and helped her catch an escaping gerbil/hamster often!
Mrs. Lautenschlager -- Most memorable that year was all the April fool jokes we played on her. My kids have such a great time with April fools now in school too.
Miss Sutter (Mrs. Schueffner) -- A 5th/6th split, small group of 5th graders but lots of fun. I was condemed that year for my laugh.
Guess Mrs. Dowd still is at Cooper! Imagine that?
Mr. Helmer with Duso (sp?) -- he was my kids' guidance counselor till last year!
Mrs. Pregalz for music -- man she had energy! "Camp town ladies sing this song, du da, du da...."
Lots of memories of Brownies and Girl Scouts with Tracy Dickfoss' mom. Fun in church lot next to Tracy's house.
CCD classes at Jeff Fetterer's house.
Let's see, who didn't I mention yet --we've heard much from Travis already, Jason Bretzman, Davey Bogenschultz, Mike Clark, Shawn Meyer, Steve Hennen. Sorry for anyone I've missed!
Other Cooper school students I've seen Kathy Grois (now a neighbor of mine), Werner Binkowsky (son is friend of my Ryan), his sister is married to Paul Klessig so have seen him around.
How about Cooper playground in summer and lantern parade? Both still strong! My kids have done some playground at our school. Same type of wood games, etc.
Better go...get my survey done. More later! Keep it going! See you all at reunion!

Grant~ that was the place to be. LOL!!

05/20/09 10:29 AM #180

Carolyn Kieffer (Counsell)

Angie - I'm with you on Grant! I was just telling someone how great Mrs. Balisteri was...my son is in 3rd grade right now and I sure wish he had a teacher like her.

I still remember my first sleepover was at your house and I have a vivid picture of sitting in your kitchen listening to the Friday night countdown on WHBL and "Cars" came on...wierd how some things stick in your head like that!

Yahoo...good old Washington Elementary. I can say when I drive by that school looks the same as when we were there. I can not say the same thing for Urban or North!

Last year it rainned for graduation and they had the ceremony separate in North and South's field houses. All I can say is that North vs. South Basketball games are not the same as when they were at the Armory.

Carolyn~ she was was a great teacher. Too funny about recalling the sleep over. Wish my memory was that good! Was that when all us gals were so hot for Joey?Lots of good times back in the day.

went to Grant also, half of kindergarden and 1st grade. then went to Washington in 2nd. I have to think of my teacher names thou. The only one I can think of off hand is Mrs Paulman in fourth grade.I think I had Mrs Lorenz in 3rd. My second grade teacher I don't really remember because I think she passed away or left cause she was really sick. Would have to look up my year books or photos if there around here. Mostly I remember playing on the playground on the bars we would spin on. Doing penny drops of the taller one. Boys eatting kool-aid to make it look like they were Gene Simmons of Kiss. Our Halloween parades. My daughter went there all 6 years and it was werid to see some of the things that have changed. I love seeing they still they have to wooden doors and the telephone booth. What was our libary is now 2 small classrooms. The gym and the art room is the same thou. And Mrs Schoenberger (sp?) is still the music teacher. She is the only one still there. It will all come back to me someday...lol

well we have covered all the other schools even though I was a mid year transplant (which was brutal) I thought I would represent the pigeon river group and Mrs Jarvis's class specifically. Ill through another thought out there as well kind of going off what brenda talked about earlier with walking to school at such a young age and through out 5th grade camp how nuts was that. I could not imagine anything like that now.

Lori Johnson! Holy good Memory girl! I forgot all about CCD! I actually enjoyed going, but CCD meant I had to miss "Growing Pains". I think eventually I was able to tape it (using the VCR your dad somehow gave to my dad...that thing JUST found it's way to the trash about 6 months ago! Worked like a CAHMP for years!) I was so sure Michael Seaver would fall in love with me if we met....if only he could have jumped out of the TV and come to Sheboygan...

I went to kindergarten at Cooper, but then to St. D's where I have not-so-fond memories of being called a dingle-berry by Mrs. Hurst. She called everyone that at some point, but my feelings always got hurt.

Sad news: Ron Glaeser slipped into a coma last Monday & passed away Saturday, shortly after 6PM. He started teaching, & retired, the same years that my Dad did: 1961-1993. The funeral is Wednesday, but I don't know where just yet. I'll try to monitor this forum if anyone needs to know.

Anybody else thinking of Andy and looking at this? I remember him being a friendly person in class and in the hall. I also remember him going around with a camera and taking pictures at games for the school paper. Compared to my slacking he always seemed to be on the go and making the most of his years at North.

01/28/10 08:59 PM #188

Jessica Fischer (McFadden)

Yes, I am really saddened, and have been thinking of Andy and his family all week. I have known him since grade school at Washington, we both wrote on the school paper at North - hadn't really seen him much since graduation, but knew he was a reporter and enjoyed working at Summerfest. I have been reading the many accolades he received professionally, as well as, in his personal life. He made quite an impression. I feel fortunate to have seen him, and his girlfriend, at the reunion. Was great to catch up. Thank you to Angie for providing the hospital's website. So sad.

Jennifer Cordes (Turzenski)

Such sad news... We shared a table with him and his girlfriend at the reunion and had a great time. We laughed about getting "married" in econ class and how he and I debated over which house we were going to buy. What a truly genuine man. If you haven't read the postings on caring bridge.com it is something that will make you look in the mirror and decide TODAY to be a better person. He had over 13,000 visits to his guestbook - many who shared a personal story of how he touched their lives. May he be an inspiration to us all.

So sad to hear about Curt. I haven't seen him in a long time - my sister lives in Madison, but our paths didn't cross.

I put a link below for anyone who would like to express their condolences.

Hey Folks!

For anyone NOT on FB, I thought you might see this here.

SUBJECT: REUNION SHIRTS

****** WHO IS PRINTING THEM?
I'm actually using CustomInk dot com, since they have decent prices, color matching, and a nice way to collect names and sizes right from their site. (I'm a geek... I like gadgets and lists... especially, gadgets that MAKE lists!

****** PRICING… it depends ******
--- 20 Shirts would be close to $20 each.
--- 35 shirts would be about $16.50 each. So, total order of $577.50.
--- 100 shirts would bring the individual amount down to $12.75 each - that would be $1,275.00 total.

****** PRE-ORDER - BY NO LATER THAN AUG. 6TH
Here is a link to can collect your Name, sizes and quantities. PLEASE ONLY PUT YOUR NAME AND SIZES THERE IF YOU REALLY PLAN TO ORDER ONE.
http://www.customink.com/signup/954zdiu6

****** WHAT IF I DON’T PRE-ORDER A SHIRT BY AUGUST 6TH?
Anyone who does not pre-order, but would still like to get one, I will go ahead and set up the CafePress page as originally discussed, but they will have to pay higher prices for those shirts. I will print off some cards to also bring to the reunion showing a link where they can go to order shirts. (I will also set up a shirt that looks closer to the original class shirt, here, for anyone that would like to have one like that.)

****** WHEN WILL I GET MY SHIRT?
As long as I get the order placed on that day, I will receive the shirt order by Thursday, August 21. I will bring the shirts to the reunion in the evening.

****** WHAT IF I AM NOT GOING TO THE REUNION?
So what! Order a shirt, and you and I can arrange a way to get it to you. Ie, you mail me the payment and s/h, and I will ship it to you.

****** PLEASE NOTE ******
I will have to come up with the full amount in one upfront chunk. So, please, ONLY put your name and sizes on the site, below, if you are TRULY SERIOUS about purchasing a shirt, and will either:
1) Be at the reunion to pick it up and pay me, or
2) You have some place I can send it to you, and can mail me the payment and s/h.

(Sorry... I can only take on so much of an order amount personally. I don't want to order more than are requested, because I really don't want to get stuck with extra shirts, and a large bill. I may be a geek... but, I'm not a RICH geek!
)

Thanks Julie for all your efforts - looking forward to catching up with everyone.

FYI, if anyone is in town Friday 8/22, and looking for fun night out, my brother-in-law, Pat McCurdy, is playing in Sheboygan at Holidays Sports Pub & Grill at 8:00. I am going to try to make it if I can leave early enough to miss Chicago rush hour:) See you soon.
