Use this post to recall your memories of the 100 ft tall death slide, the highly sought privilege of fetching the milks each afternoon and other great grade school gems!

Does anybody remember the school bus wreck that occurred towards the end of our kindergarten year?
The buses were all lined up at the elementary school and the high school kids walked over and we all got on the buses, and when we were leaving the bus I was on ran into the back of another one.
A bus in front of us stopped to allow another one to get in line and because it was raining, our brakes didn't work. Our bus driver, who was a student driver at the time literally stood on the brake pedal to try to stop. I was watching the entire thing and knew we were about to hit the bus in front of us. I put my feet up against the seat in front of me, but I was too weak to hold myself back. Well, the school bus riders will remember the metal bar that trimmed the backs of the seats. My mouth hit that metal bar and knocked out my front teeth. Frankie was in the seat next to mine and she hit her nose on the metal bar. We were taken to the local doctors, who treated us. It was pretty scary. I ended up swallowing a tooth!

I don't remember ever hearing that story Kathy... but I was an in-town boy, so momma brought me to school each day. :)

I do remember the first time I got the highly anticipated privilege of riding a school bus.  I was spending the night with Lee Shaw in the first grade & rode the bus home with him.  As we walked down the long sidewalk to his bus, I remember him telling me the bus number as well as the "character" to look for... can't remember which was his though.

I wonder how many of those characters we can remember?  The only one that comes to my mind right off is Woody Woodpecker.  Was there an Elmer Fudd too?

I am not totally sure, but when we were in elementary school I remember getting off of the bus at home in the afternoon. Most of you know me and Ricky Whitaker lived next door to each other. Anyway we had just gotten off the bus and it hadn't gone 100 yards and we heard a loud noise, one of the wheels on the back had come completly off the bus. That was a big deal, nothing very exciting ever happened in the Little Creek Community, and if im not mistaken I think it was the old Slugo Bus.

I do remember the bus incident. I just remember we were glad to be off that bus. That would have messed up our whole afternoon of seeing what kinda trouble we could get into. We sure had alot of fun back then. I have to get in touch with you about getting a copy of some of those pictures you had at the reunion.
