UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS

Larry J. Atkins  2/15
ANNOUNCEMENTS

Unhappily, word has come that Sam Bean died on August 20, 2018, which I’ve been able to confirm with Maricopa County, AZ. Early on the personnel director of companies in the Washington suburban area, in the late 1970s he got involved in television production. Sam—or Frank, as he had become known professionally—rose to the position of executive producer of collegiate sports programming, and eventually he left that company to become the director of marketing for the Osmonds (yes, Donny and Marie). He soon found himself commuting frequently across country while residing in Gaithersburg, then Annapolis, so he decided to start his own east coast company, Baruch Television, and became involved in producing and distributing television shows. Sam retired to Sun City West, AZ, where he lived for nearly 14 years.

The years they roll by and, alas, announcements such as this one become all the more common. It is with sadness that I report the death of Bob Reznek, on Thanksgiving day 2018. I received word from Sharon Landers Connelly, NHS Class of 1959 and a mutual friend. The photograph above accompanied his obituary in the December 23, 2018 Arizona Republic. Wynn and I both had close connections to Bob while we were at Northwood. She dated him for a spell, whereas I had science and mathematics classes with him. As most of you know, Wynn and I spend our winters in Arizona, just west of Phoenix. Bob and his wife Char(lene) had retired in Scottsdale to the east, hardly a long jaunt by automobile, and the four of us got together every two years for a film and dinner. I don't know why that particular frequency—it certainly was not a spoken thing or planned that way or graven in stone. Because 2017–2018 was an "off" year, just recently she or I mentioned that we needed to contact the Rezneks after the Christmas holiday to get together for our usual evening. And now word has come that Bob is gone. Wynn and I shall miss his company.
