Well, I ought to have put "Gov't Employee" first since that is my "day gig" -- the one that pays the biggest bills! But I'll always be a musician first and foremost in my mind. I did work full-time as a trombonist down in New Orleans from 1983 to 1995. I then returned to the DC area with my now wife Natalie, whom I had met down yonder.
Shortly thereafter I got a job in the recorded sound collection at the Library of Congress, and that is where I am yet. I continue to play music and in 2006 I went to Paris for two months to play trombone in a revue about Josephine Baker and believe me, it was a ball!
Our old schoolmate Doug Benson and I started up a CD label devoted to early jazz recordings and our first release, "Kig Oliver, Off the Record" received a GRAMMY nomination for my liner notes. How 'bout that?
I have a stepson who is now married and has two small boys, so I got to become a grandfather w/out having to raise up anyone -- WHEW!!
I'd love to hear from any of you folks.
Be well --
David
