Gary and I were friends since our days at Takoma Park Junior High School, but we became closer later in high school and especially at the University of Maryland. We spent many a day and night at Cole Field House watching the basketball Terps and enjoying every minute of it. Gary was a very private person and difficult to get close to, but very genuine and possessing a biting wit. He was an unbelievable sports fanatic, especially the expansion Washington Senators. He once invited me to his house to see his incredible collection of Washington Senators jerseys. I believe he contacted every player who ever donned a uniform for the old Nats, execpt pitcher Phil Ortega, who was missing somewhere in Mexico. At some point, I lost track of Gary, but I found him at the 2002 Orange Bowl in Miami, when our Terps played Florida. Gary was a great friend. I miss him greatly and think of him every day. He was taken from us much too soon. G_d bless you, Gary.
