GRACE METHODIST CHURCH

I told this story to Sue Smith after she entered a video about Grace Church in the Morningside Photos section.  Myself and another bricklayer (Rudy Wehger) just the two of us bricklayers, built the bell tower for W.A. Klinger Contruction Co. It's located on the east side of the church, next to Morningside Ave.. We had to build it from the inside because it would have been to difficult to build it from the outside, since the tower is round. I was still an apprentice at the time and it was a great honor to be chosen to work on it. It took a while to get it all done but every time I drive by it I feel proud to have worked on the tower. It was nice to go by (Our  East High School) and look across the street and see some of my bricklaying skills before me. That tower should be there for a long time. Now it's sad that East is no longer there but at least the tower will be.

Note:   I was a member of the church when some of the pictures were taken of the Sunday School classes. There were several classes but our class didn't have any pictures in the video. When it burnt down, some of us just got out of church basketball practice at the old East Junior gym. Boy was it cold standing there watching it go up in flames.
