I knew Lee through my sister when he was going with her friend, Cheryl Harshfield. He was a good guy, and one of the COOL ones, as far as I was concerned.

EUREKA, Ill. -- Lee R. Owens, 60, of Eureka died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka, with the Rev. Michael Kolesar officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lee R. Owens was born July 24, 1943 in Holyoke, Colo. to Clarence and Hazel (Dwyer) Owens. He served in the U.S. Air Force, last serving in Vietnam.

He married Karin K. Sierk on June 8, 1963 in South Sioux City, Neb. Mr. Owens was a data communications network manager.

He was a member of Eureka Lions Club and was a former Cub Scout Master and Little League baseball coach.

Survivors include his wife, Karin of Eureka; two sons, Steven (Michelle) Owens of El Dorado, Kan. and Richard (Angela) Owens of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Jackie Phipps of Apple Valley, Minn. and Petrina Merritt of Onawa, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Wyatt Owens and Alannah Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, Wallace Arneson.

Memorials may be made to the Eureka-Goodfield Rescue Squad.
