SIOUX CITY -- Lance C. Barnes, 39, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at a Fort Collins hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Monday at Mid-City Park in Sioux City. Refreshments will be available. The body was cremated and will be brought back to Sioux City.

Lance was born Sept. 25, 1969, in Sioux City to Ben and Joyce Barnes. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from North High School in 1989. Lance had various jobs over the years. He was a C.N.A. at Marian Health Center. He also worked as an interior decorator in Denver, Colo., and later worked at the Denver Mortuary. He served on the advisory board for community service in Fort Collins.

He was talented at art and enjoyed painting, drawing and several other crafts. He loved gardening and planting flowers and trees. He loved being outside and spending time with his friends. He was known for easily making friends.

Lance's pride and joy as well as his best friend was his Chihuahua, Tuffy. He rarely spent any time away from Tuffy and loved spoiling him with human food.

Lance is survived by his father, Ben Barnes Sr.; his brothers, Travis and Ben Jr., both of Sioux City; three nieces, many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would also like to thank Becky Clausen and her daughters Samantha and Hannah for their kindness to Lance and the many visits back and forth to Colorado. The girls enjoyed spending time with Lance.

Lance was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Barnes as well as both grandfathers and grandmothers.
