Joseph Paul Dugan Jr., "Joey," age 50, of Smyrna, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
He was born July 11, 1966, in Dover, DE, the son of Joseph Paul and Madeline Frances Dugan of Smyrna.
He graduated from Smyrna High School in 1985. During his high school career, Joey was an avid Smyrna wrestler.
Mr. Dugan was owner/driver/trainer for Joe P. Dugan Jr. Stables, Smyrna, DE.
Joey received numerous awards in harness racing, including winning the 1980 National Junior Harness Driving Championship.
He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and cherished his time with his family and friends, including his granddaughter.
Joseph was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles D. Straughn.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Joseph Paul Dugan III (Mackenzie) of Dover, DE; his granddaughter, Elowyn Quinn Dugan; six siblings, Hartford Robinson III (Nancie), Kendall Robinson (Linda), Wanda Straughn, Robert Robinson (Linda), Joanne Fletcher (Dan) and Celeste Hufford (David); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Polycarp Roman Catholic Parish, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna. Burial will follow at Townsend Cemetery in Townsend, DE.
