Jeff Butterbaugh, 51, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at home surrounded by his wife and boys. Gathering of Family and Friends: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, with a Sharing of Memories beginning at 7 p.m. Please feel free to bring a memory of Jeff to share.

Survivors include his cherished wife of 25 years, Kristine; sons, Camden and Rylan; father, Len (Melanie) Butterbaugh of Council Bluffs; brother, Sean Butterbaugh of Council Bluffs; brother-in-law, Brian (Sara) Brandsmeier of North Liberty; nephews and nieces, Jace and Corey Butterbaugh, and Axel and Lumen Brandsmeier; in-laws, Curt and Jan Brandsmeier of Waukon; uncle, Bruce Waterman of Council Bluffs; many close friends; and pets, Lava, Cheeto, and Jinx.

Jeffrey Scott Waterman was born March 29, 1966, in Harlan, Iowa, to Dennis Waterman and Patricia Lasher. Shortly after his birth, Dennis passed away serving in Vietnam. He was adopted by his step-father, Len Butterbaugh. Jeff attended Solon High School, graduating in 1984, then attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1990. He met Kristine Brandsmeier while at UNI, shopping for a Christmas gift for his mother—Kristine thought he was a keeper straightaway. They married in Waukon on October 3, 1992, and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last month.

When Camden and Rylan came into their lives, Jeff dedicated his time to their activities, coaching them along the way in golf, basketball, and baseball. Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports—especially the Hawkeyes, Vikings, and Cardinals—cooking, and traveling. Jeff was always “all-in”, and focused wholeheartedly on each task set ahead of him. He was beloved by his family and friends, and will be sincerely missed.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father; mother; and grandparents.
