WILLIAMSPORT, MD. — JOSEPH – Edward N., known to many friends and family as “Cuz,” 84, fell asleep in the Lord June 12, 2013, at Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport, Md. Most recently a resident of Hagerstown, Md., Eddie was formerly a resident of Somerset and Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Norman, Theodore and William; and sisters, Frances and Anne (Michnya). Survivors include his wife, Brenda; children, Lisa Joseph Burek (Scott), Glenshaw, Pa.; Melissa Joseph Kauffman (Gene), Hagerstown, Md.; and Matthew Albert Joseph (Ashley), Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Ryan and Elena Burek, Glenshaw, Pa.; Nicholas and Lauren Kauffman, Hagerstown, Md.; and William, Maddox and Alexandra Joseph, Charlotte, N.C. Also survived by sisters, Dawn Hagins, Dolores Hawkins and Sandra Joseph, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Born Dec. 18, 1928, in Johnstown, son of Charles and Geraldine (Jaber) Joseph. He graduated from Franklin High School and Lock Haven University. Eddie served in the Army during the Korean war. On Aug. 17, 1963, he married the former Brenda (Salem). Eddie taught physical education for the Somerset Area Schools for 40 years, where he was affectionately known by both students and staff as “Mr. Joe.” He retired from teaching in 1993. Lifelong member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Johnstown, where he sang in the choir. In recent years, he attended St. Mary Orthodox Church, Chambersburg, Pa. Eddie served as the athletic director of Antiochian Village Camp, Ligonier, for many years. Also a member of Order of St. Ignatius, American Legion, VFW, Somerset Masonic Lodge, Tall Cedars and Altoona Shrine. During his rich life, Eddie enjoyed traveling, cooking, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, where Trisagion prayers will be sung at 7 p.m. Trisagion prayers will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with funeral service following at St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, the Very Rev. Father Donald E. Shadid, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Antiochian Village Camp, 201 St. Ignatius Trail, Bolivar, Pa., 15923, with a notation that funds be directed to Edward Joseph Memorial Scholarship Fund.
