Malika Zillay Husbands  entered eternity on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick NJ. Born to Lenore A. Davis and Richard Husbands on September 12, 1974, Malika lived a full and valiant life. Malika was a Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens for over 30 years. She was a 1992 graduate of Franklin High School. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC in 1996. Malika was employed by Harvest of Hope Family Services for 17 years, holding various positions including Executive Director. She loved this work, securing safe homes for the states Border Babies and foster children. Malika received a MSW from Rutgers University School of Social Work in May 2011. Malika is a former secretary of the New Brunswick Area Branch of the NAACP, original member of the New Jersey Orators, Somerset Branch, singer with TH Productions, founder of the Jenkins Brother Fan Club and a lifetime member of the NCCU Alumni Association. Malika was initiated into the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1995. Most recently she was a member of the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter.She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Lenore A. Davis; father, Richard Husbands; sister, Mawiyah Husbands; aunt, Roslyn Davis; uncles, Kent Walker, Victor Husbands, Lawrence Antoine (Uche) and a host of cousins, family, and friends.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset, NJ at 10:00 am. Viewing will begin at 8:30 am.
