I went to Snow College right after high school and later went on to BYU. I did my student teaching in Ephraim where my sister, Marta Beckstrom Bitton and best friend Paula Meldrum Davis, were going to school. Just before I finished at BYU I served a mission to Japan-Sendai. It was so cold there in the winter I woke up more than once with snow covering the bottom of my futon, right in the apartment! After that I changed my major to International Relations and also finished up my Elementary Ed degree at BYU. I went to Asia on study abroad and visited China, Hong Kong, and Korea as well as Japan.
I went to work in Japan for a few years in the Kobe-Osaka area. After I came back to the US, I moved to Arizona as an international student advisor and middle school teacher at a boarding school near Sedona. I loved commuting to work on a dirt road, 4 wheel drive when it rained. The scenery there is incredible and I liked living in a small town. I decided to get my Master's degree in counseling and human relations at Northern Arizona University and get a job at a college or university in advisement and counseling. When I graduated from NAU I got a temporary job at Alaska Airlines in Phoenix, and 12 years later I am still here! Sometimes people ask me why I am not using my counseling degree, but I use it on the passengers and my fellow employees every day. It has been a pleasure to travel, including trips to Alaska. I love the warm winters in Arizona that allow year round hiking and outdoor activites. It has been fun to read everyone's profiles and see the photos. Wish I could be there for the reunion-- have fun!

School Story:

Until I started reading the profiles, I had forgotten about Ashi-babba! I remember a crazy pep assembly where Coach Moody's homeroom sang a song someone, I think Joseph Meldrum, had written new words to the hymn Who's on the Lord's Side. Remember Mrs. Huff and how energetic she was at pep rallies? I have a lot of fun memories from missing classes because the teachers thought I was doing something important for newspaper or another teacher. It is amazing so many years have passed and some memories are so clear.
