Worked in the telecommunications industry for 31 years. Retired in 2001. Took a year off, got bored, took a pt job with the Lincoln Library system where I ended up working for almost 19 years, retiring in 2020.
My first husband died in 2002 and in 2004 I married a good friend, Dean Dumler, who I had known for around 20 years. We raised his granddaughter who is now almost 28 and working on her Masters at UNL.
My son got remarried and 2 step-children were added to the family. I now have 6 grandchildren on my side and 2 grandchildren on Dean's side. We are loving life, which is full of family activities, travel, social functions, and just plain fun. One of the greatest joys in the last few years (besides adding a lovely daughter-in-law and step-grands) is that my daughter and family who previously lived in Hawaii and Washington, DC, moved back to Omaha. She is a dentist and owns a dental office which specializes in dentistry to alleviate sleep apnea. We love being able to see our 10 and 8 year old grandchildren more often!
Although I have told this story many times, it is still amusing to me.
I was running really late one morning before marching band practice with Mr. Dean. He, as everyone knows, was very strict and ran a tight ship. I pondered whether to be properly dressed in tie shoes and be late for practice or to wear my loafers and be on time. I chose to be on time. The majorette line was doing our regular kicks to the beat of the music as we were marching down the field. On one of the kicks my loafer flew off my foot, over my head and landed in Kirk's tuba. I was mortified that Mr. Dean would see my shoe flying or notice my bare foot as we marched. Not to worry...without missing a beat, the shoe was handed up through the line and I got it on my foot--Mr. Dean none the wiser. I owe you one!!!
