Robbie (aka Rob) and I remained in touch throughout the years after we graduated. I lived with him and his family our first summer after graduation; they were a second family to me.

I was his best man when he married his wife, Jennifer, in 1989. He had a short visit with our family on his way to Korea in about 2000, and my boys and wife were able to see why we'd been such good friends. They really enjoyed the time Rob spent with us.

We later met up with Rob in Pomeroy, WA, the town where he spent his summers driving wheat trucks from the time he could reach the controls and until his family moved to Minnesota. He'd snuck his oldest son--who is his spitting image--along on the trip without Jennifer knowing. In all, he had six children who ranged from 2+ to ~16 when he passed away.

He was a proud and honorable serviceman, with almost 20 years of service in the US Army. He served in Iraq during the first Iraq war, spent time in Germany, and later in Korea. He was well-decorated and very much respected by his peers and soldiers.

I had the privilege and honor of speaking at Rob's funeral.  I will remember him fondly and cherish the memories we made together.
