KLEIN OAK High School
1989

Welcome to THE Klein Oak Class of '89 Reunion Page

HELLO KOHS '89 Classmates!

WE'RE BACK!!!!!

And the Feedback and Attendance to our 20 Year was so great - that everyone was asking for a repeat!  We decided that 'we haven't changed in 10 years, right, so why should our reunion?! :)

We don't know where the past 30 years went, let alone the last 10, but we know this about the journey and thought it might be time to share it to show just how far we've all come -- (and there are even some pictures on the site to prove it!)....

1999/The 10 Year Reunion..."THE BREAKFAST CLUB"  A small group of us came together and ended up bucking 'the norm'; we wanted to challenge class reunion standards by being the first class to not use a hotel banquet hall with their ice sculptures, boring buffets & drink tickets....the reunion company we were to use discouraged us to keep it from happening, they said we wouldn't get enough people to pay, but we told them they would be proven wrong. We charged a little more and had ours where WE wanted -- under the stars downtown, in the FALL, with beer and wine and bites included.  We added a free family picnic for the kids and had our first golf tourney, and it was overall, the largest turnout the reunion company had ever seen - (and they started offering that venue option after we did it).   Back then, your committee was calling 'lost' people to come join us via alphabetized & xeroxed phone book printouts that we all divided up amongst us and called at night on our rotary phones....we were the class of '89 and we always liked to put our own stamp on things as a group, even if it meant more work on our part to make that happen.

2009/20 Year Reunion ..."RISKY BUSINESS" The 'interweb' was here and this thing called 'facebook' was 'starting' yet we still weren't sure how to find everyone but we knew our class would find each other!  We agreed to ditch the expensive reunion company other classes were using as we knew could do more with the funds if we managed it - so we turned to our little team of event planners, company owners, marketing specialists, music managers and hotel industry gurus and came up with what we would want to do for OUR class.  We were the first KO class to use a website called Class Creator, and managed all of the funds and plans and decor - all by the seat of our pants. We didn't know what we were getting into - Shirley Acres had never had a Class Reunion there before -- and now they've hosted many as a result.  And to top the evening, we were lucky to have INSIDE OUT come back and play LIVE for a one-night-only encore, and added in a donation option that helped us manage all of the extras we wanted to provide and still make it affordable - thanks to many generous classmates! It was a night to remember...and the two classes that followed us....well, followed our plans! It was a full weekend of fun, and afterwards we were being asked to do a 25 year...! But time flew by....and a decade later....

201930 Year Reunion. So... It's "BACK To the FUTURE".   Based on feedback, we decided "RETRO" is always good - and so we are back to incorporating all of the elements that we knew and heard you say helped make for such a good time and have worked so well for us. For starters...The Venue (with a facelift thanks to HARVEY). The Fall Timing. The Day o' Golf. The Live Music - INSIDE OUT is BACK!!!. The All-Inclusive/No-Cash Package Price.  The Donations.  And some new extras like hotel blocks and surprise guests.  But without a doubt, the ONE element that makes these reunions all so very special, and the reason why so many come together to give their time and money to help make it that way, is all of you, the Class of 1989.  There isn't another like it and there will probably never be another big reunion like this one so....

"IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME"...

That has become our mantra. 30 years is a tough crowd for most classes.  But we don't believe that about ours and knew it wasn't a risk but instead a real need to make this another special event.  Yet ONLY with your help, can we BUILD a night you'll remember more than your Prom (or maybe that's not the best reference?)!   It's a crazier, busier world, and as one of your classmates, we are just as thankful for the time, ideas and support of the folks on this very voluntary committee that have helped pull this thing off for all of us each Decade. We will be recognizing them, but for now, the best recognition and thanks you can give them is three-fold:

1) EARLY ticket purchase - the sooner we know what we have to work with, the more we can do!

2) DONATIONS/SPONSORSHIPS - If you are in a position to give a little more; we use every bit of it for our classmates and happy to share where the funds go  (see Donation page for details).  Also, if you have a cool item to donate to our raffle or door prizes, please send an email to kohs89reunion@gmail.com

3) SPREAD THE WORD.  We are thankful we no longer have to call on our landlines from paper printouts, but not everyone is on Facebook.  If you can text or call those that you don't see and send them our website info or FB page info we would appreciate your help.  Or just buy their ticket for them and have them paypal/Venmo/CASH app you - that's what the kids do these days right?

Thank you and see you in October!
