U.S. Veteran

Judith "Judy" Ann Forbush Benjamin, born on March 22, 1940, in Springfield, Vermont, to Richard O. Forbush (Red) and Mary E. Forbush, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, in Scarborough, Maine.

Judy was a proud veteran who served as a Staff Sergeant (E6) in the United States Army after graduating high school. She later dedicated her career to caring for others, working at Springfield Hospital in both the maternity ward and pharmacy before transitioning to private nursing, where she compassionately assisted elderly patients in her retirement.

She spent her life in North Springfield, Vermont, raising her two children alongside her husband, Freeman S. Benjamin. Together, they owned a cherished camp on Lake Warren in NH for over 20 years—a gathering place filled with love and memories for family and friends. Judith loved traveling and explored destinations such as Ireland, Australia, the Philippines, Korea, New Zealand, and many states across the U.S. Maine held a special place in her heart as a favorite vacation spot during her children’s upbringing.

Judy was an avid sports fan with unwavering loyalty to the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. She also enjoyed taking scenic drives and dining out with her beloved family. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

She is survived by her daughter Susan M. Benjamin; son F. Scott Benjamin; grandchildren Jillian E. Harrington, Kyle Benjamin Harrington, Kristin Mary Harrington, Jamine E. Benjamin, and Mark R. Benjamin (and his partner Chelsea Vail); great-grandchildren William Joey Bushey and Aera E. Benjamin; and her brother Richard "Dick" Forbush and his wife Janet Forbush, her brother-in-law Art Millard and her sister-in-law Noella Forbush. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Judy was predeceased by her husband Freeman S. Benjamin; parents Richard O. Forbush and Mary E. Griffin Forbush; siblings Mary Ellen Millard and David Forbush; Aunt Louise and Uncle Spen; as well as her beloved cat Shadow and dog Sadie.

A service will be held on February 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the North Springfield Baptist Church, 581 Giddings Street, North Springfield, Vermont. Donations in Judith’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

I am most saddened to learn of Judy's passing. She was a fine endearing friend and classmate. I recall the many times 'hanging' with her and Freeman, including our numerous double dates. They were 'neat' and wonderful people! It is so sad that they are both gone from us, but enheartening that they are now rejoined for eternity. My condolences to their family... always remember how fortunate you were to have been part of them.

So saddened by the loss of friend and classmate.  Judy and I became friends in the 7th grade. She befriended me when I visited  my Aunt who lived across the street from her and we have been friends ever since. So many fond memories.  One a party at  her Aunt and Uncle's Lake Warren cottage.  A  fun time.  Judy and Freeman lived in North Springfield. During  the years of raising our families,. our  sons also became friends. Judy  had a nickname for me "C".  Oh how I will miss that greeting from her, "hey C"   Don and I send our condolances to her lovely family, Scott,  Susan and their families,

Truly heartbroken to hear that we lost another one of our classmates, Judy Forbush Benjamin.  I surely will miss Judy at our Class Breakfasts.  I did attend her service last Saturday (02/08/2025) and like Judy, it was well attended. Her family shared many happy moments they all had through the years.  I caught up with Susan and Scott and Susan's daughter and Scott's son.  They gave a very loving tribut to their grandmother.  I also learned more about all the adventures she had in her life time. Over the years Judy, Judy Paton Blish and I shared March birthdays which was very special to me.  I truly will miss this beautiful, warm, funny lady.  Hugs, Pris
