OCALA, Fla. - Paul L. Sylvia, 68, died Jan. 2, 2012.

Born in Hartford, Conn., he graduated from Springfield High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Sylvia enjoyed time spent at Willoughby Lodge, NASCAR racing, bowling, competition horseshoes and casinos.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sylvia; a son, Michael Sylvia of Springfield, Va.; a daughter, Debra Foley of Plymouth, Mass.; two grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Lisa Pivonka of Chuluota, Fla.

The graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor of United Methodist Church in Springfield, officiating and followed by a gathering at the Springfield VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, 1601 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608-1197. Memo should read: In memory of Paul Sylvia, GPF8003.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
