UNITY, N.H. - Howard J. Aiken, 44, formerly of Springfield, died unexpectedly Friday at his home in Unity, N.H., of an apparent heart attack. 

He was born March 10, 1944, In Springfield, the son of Clyde John and Tyyne (Jaskey) Aiken. He attended schools In Chester and graduated from Springfield High School. For many years, he made his home in Springfield and for 18 years was assistant vice president at the First National Bank of Vermont. For the past six years, he lived in Unity, N.H.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid outdoorsman and for many years was a member and officer of the Springfield Rod and Gun Club. He was also a past member and treasurer of the Claremont, N.H. Beagle Club.

Survivors Include his wife, Patricia (Anderson) Aiken, whom he married October 24, 1981, in Weathersfleld. Also surviving are his parents, Springfield; two daughters, Dawn M. Sundeen and Kimberley A. Aiken, Worcester, Mass.; a sister, Caroline Berg, North Springfield; two grandsons; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Davis Memorial Chapel In Springfield, with the Rev. Robert C. Yoh, pastor of the Weathersfleld Center Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours.
