 Upgrade for Goshen complex

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Olivia Grange, said her ministry is fine-tuning a plan for the repair of the Goshen Sports Complex in St Elizabeth.

Minister Grange made the announcement on Thursday at the awards function for the National Community Cricket competition, organised by the Social Development Commission (SDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Minister Grange said: "This week a team from my ministry - specifically, the SDC and the Sports Development Foundation, including engineers and project managers - went to Goshen, assessed the property and fine-tuned plans to repair it one more time."

It will be the third time that the Government of Jamaica, through the Sports Development Foundation, has found it necessary to fund major repairs at the Goshen Sports Complex.

Under the new management arrangement proposed by Minister Grange, two SDC community officers will be appointed to the management committee.

Minister Grange gave an outline of the work to be done at the facility, which also houses the Goshen Early Childhood Institution.

"We're going to put in a slab roof. We're going to repair the perimeter fence. And we will be refurbishing the multi-purpose court. In addition, we will partition off a section of the grounds to create a play area for the children."

She also indicated that Braes River Sports Complex, also in St Elizabeth, would be getting attention from her ministry. The minister has invited a partnership between the management and residents who use the facility and her ministry. Grange said if the people organised to repair the fence, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture would install a multi-purpose court at the facility.
