Our classmate and friend Mike graduated from Augustinian Academy High School. Mike's final resting place is Resurrection Cemetery.
The last time I spoke with Mike was a few years before he passed away. I drove over to his radiator shop on Gravois near Chippewa and we talked all afternoon.
I had posted this earlier to Karen Raftery but it seems appropriate for Mikes Memorial page. Hi Karen, you've had me thinking of VanderPluym all day. So, a little story: I had a party in 7th Grade and Mike had somehow lost his signet ring in our basement. Got a phone call the next day and we tore that basement apart looking for that ring. Poof, vanished. In later years, whenever I ran into Mike, he'd ask if I had found the ring. It became our go to greeting for years. Around '78, my dad was working in the basement and pulled down a wall panel and there was that ring. He called and I retrieved the ring and drove to the radiator shop. Mike says, "Have you found that ring?" and I just smiled and held up my hand, it was on my pinkie. Man, what a good laugh we had that day. Miss him.

So very sad he died so young. I remember so much fun we had together! I had such a crush on him. He was my first love! Miss him still!

I'm pretty sure every girl was in love with Mike VanderPluym!!
In first grade on the slide, he took my beanie and sailed it through the playground.
I had a crush on him throughout grade school.
