I met Mary Jane about 1954 or right before our years at Oakland Park School.  She and her parents lived across the street from Marily Bauer on Charles street.  I didn't know Marilyn just then but I did Mary Jane.  My parents bought some land south of town on the river and built a cabin on that land.  There were several others there and the lot next to ours was the Cunninghams.  Sometime during the Summer months we would meet up 'at the river' and spend time together, berry picking, swinging on the tire swing on the tree on their lot, walking the paths in the woods or just talking at the picnic bench.  Once when our family was there but not hers I used that swing and the rope broke from the branch.  OUCH!  Our paths crossed only a few times during that summer and the next.

We didn't keep in touch through junior high or high school; each of us had other closer friends.  I did see her a few times in town shopping for shoes for her kids.  That's when I worked at Leslie's Shoe Store and waited on her a few times.

Quiet, shy, she was hard to get to know.  She liked to tell jokes and the only one who laughed was my Dad.  Bless his heart.

God Bless you Mary Jane
