Daniel Minney (Science, Coach)

Daniel Minney, 70, of Madison, WV, formally of Gassaway, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. He was a member of PALS and a retired teacher and coach in Braxton County for 36 years. He touched many lives and has been remembered by all for being a caring man that always had a smile on his face and a kind word for all. Daniel was born on April 15, 1943. He was the 19th of 21 children. Growing up in Gilmer County he attended and graduated from Glenville High School and went on to Glenville State College. After graduating from college in 1965 he got his first teaching and coaching opportunity at Gassaway High School. Daniel taught Science and coached football and basketball. He and his wife were always active in the community. They also helped in starting the Gassaway Youth Recreation Association. When consolidation of the high schools happened in Braxton County, he chose to stay at Gassaway Jr. High. He coached there until the new middle school was built. He then moved to Braxton County High School to teach and coach until he retired. Upon his retirement he became active in bowling, fishing, and hunting. He was remembered most for taking care of his wife for 47 years. They were always together and are now together again. Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Rheita Joyce Minney. He is survived by his son, Donald Minney, of Madison; five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; several nieces and nephews Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Allen Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in the Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
