Tommy MacNeil

MacNEIL, Thomas Paul - It is with great sadness that his family announces the unexpected death on April 10, 2008, of Thomas Paul MacNeil, beloved husband and high school sweetheart of Gail (Currie); loving father of Tyler and Riley. Tom was 42 years old. Born in Montreal, raised in Sydney, and a graduate of Sydney Academy and St. F.X. University, Tom married Gail in 1991 and moved to Bermuda. A chartered accountant, Tom had a successful career as Managing Director of Jupiter Asset Management Bermuda Ltd. and then New Star Asset Management Bermuda Ltd. A talented and gifted athlete, Tom excelled in hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. Growing up in Sydney, Tom played minor hockey with the Whitney Pier and Sydney Associations winning many provincial championships. He went on to play for Sydney Academy, winning two provincial championships, UCCB and St. F.X., and with the Junior "A" Cole Harbour Colts, won the silver in the '85 Centennial Cup. Tom was an avid golfer and cherished the opportunity to have visited Augusta National in 2001 with his dad and close friends. A dedicated family man, he was a giant in his community with a huge heart who gave freely of his time to everyone who needed it. He brightened the life of every person he met. Tom worked tirelessly with young athletes in Bermuda; one of his biggest dreams was to see an ice hockey arena someday on the island. Tom was the son of Carole (Reid) and the late Thomas MacNeil. He is survived by his sisters, Stacey and Lesley; parents-in-law, Ann Marie and Neil Currie; sisters-in-law, Colleen (Patrick LeBlanc) and Maureen (Walter Wojick); nephews, Christopher, Devin, Justin, Ryan; nieces Maria, Brogan. Visitation will be held in T.W. Curry Funeral Home, Wednesday, April 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in St. Joseph's Church, Sydney, on Thursday, April 17, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to St. F. I was so sorry to hear about Tommy's passing. I went through Elementary, Junior High and High School with him. I didn't know him that well but he was always one of the nicest guys in school. My condolences to all of his family.
