Hello classmates,
Dear Foss Falcon Family:
At a recent school board study session on 1/15/11, Superintendent Art Jarvis proposed that Foss High School be closed for at least three years in order to save two million dollars toward a projected five million dollar district deficit. Foss students would be “reassigned” to other high schools and provided transportation to their closest alternate high school, not necessarily their alternate school of choice. A News Tribune reporter was present at this event and subsequently a front page story about Foss’s possible closure followed on 1/16/11 prior to Foss administrators or staff being informed of Dr. Jarvis’s proposal. This is Dr. Jarvis’s proposal, not a definitive plan!! Action is needed now and your support can make a difference!!!!
We have already lost our neighborhood middle school Hunt despite the fact that voters in March 2010 successfully passed our school bond measure with the promise to re-build Hunt. Shortly after the election, Dr. Jarvis proposed Hunt’s closure and the school board agreed to close Hunt Middle school in June 2010, Foss’s main feeder middle school.
PTSA encourages you to express your opinion about the proposed closure of Foss High School with letters and email to our school board and local papers (TNT and Tacoma Weekly), texts, Facebook and attendance at our PTSA meeting on 1/25 /11 in the Foss Little Theater and the district school board meeting at Foss High School cafeteria on 1/27 at 5:00 p.m.
Together , we can keep Foss open: educating our kids and creating good citizens for our Tacoma community. Thank you for your support!!!
