The Chapel Project

Johann Sebastian Bach: Notenbuch für Anna Magdalena (Auszug) - Karlchens Spieluhrenorchester

"The former Sisters' Chapel that we used to know when we were students - mere words could never fully describe with accurate sufficiency the  contemplative effect of this most hallowed place of prayer on us alumni when we come visit the convent. However, it is now non-existent and remains only in one's memory. The beautiful chapel has now been converted and has been annexed as part of the Sister's quarters with two comfort rooms built-in."

What a modern day tragedy we behold with our eyes. With saddened hearts and a collective spirit of giving back to their Beloved Alma Mater St. Augustine School, members of SAS Class 1958 agreed in principle to help rebuild, refurbish, renovate and to return the Sister's Chapel to its original design and condition. Talk about Divine Providence intervening.

It was during SAS Class 1958's Golden Jubilee celebration held this last December 2008 that they decided - upon seeing what has happened to their beloved chapel in the convent - to do something productive with their contribution. The members of SAS Class 1958 unanimously decided to sponsor the Chapel Project.

As with many projects now being evaluated by the Sisters at St. Augustine, this Chapel project needs serious stake holders, backers, and advocates. SAS Class 1958 stands to honor its word to continue to support the restoration of the Chapel as its own contribution to the overall Sister's Convent project provided that there is complete agreement and understanding with the Sisters of the project parameters and the disbursement of monies.

All of us members of SAS Class 1958 know and understand the harsh realities of working life here - abroad, wherever that may be. We have other responsibilities too in addition to pursuing a career - family, children, a mortgage, transportation, insurance, medical/dental expenses, fuel and food - perhaps even a personal business to maintain. To put it quite simply, money is hard to come by. We are literally counting pennies.

Yet - we stand ready to assist our Alma Mater in any way we can. A great majority of the SAS Class 1958 membership deemed the restoration of the Sister's Chapel as being the most worthy purpose with which to use their contribution.

All parties concerned ought to honor that desire and wish of SAS Class 1958 - in the interest of fairness and accommodation and hopefully continued support.
