In Memory

Simone Burket

Simone graduated class of 1978, many of you will remember her as a warm, fun-loving fellow Chamberlain Chief.  Several days after Christmas 2008, Simone took her own life. While she did have many friends, the challenges of everyday life must have seemed a bit overwhelming. Simone will be missed by all who knew her and all of her fellow classmates from Chamberlain High School.

May she rest in peace.

Life
Okay, here goes .. now I'm not nearly as shy as I used to be, okay? I was married for 14 years to my high school sweetheart, Kurt Edwards c/o '77. We did not have children TOGETHER (not by my choice) and we divorced in 1997. I met the next "love-of-my-life" I suppose you would say, at the Florida Highway Patrol. He passed away July 17, 2006 right in front of my eyes. I've never been to any of my reunions and really hope that we have one next year! I'm cuter than ever (told you I wasn't shy anymore) .. and "Life" has taught me so much. I have "worked" since I was 15 and had to have a permit from school .. too funny! I never wanted to go to college because I didn't believe that it was necessary in order to meet my goal in life .. to be the best wife and the best mother. Should've listened to my Daddy! I've been everything from a bank teller, an airline reservation agent, the Assistant to the Mayor's Secretary when Bob Martinez was in office (okay .. y'all are JUST as old as I am!!) I worked for Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office as a secretary and also .. ready for this one .. a Reserve Deputy. A regular Annie Oakley. As always, I expected nothing less than perfection out of myself and was the only female in my class to shoot "Master." I attempted to become a State Trooper but my 10-year-long divorce proceedings prevented me from achieving my goal. During the past year I have just been taking one day at a time and trying to find myself again. My life has not been easy but I wouldn't trade the lessons that God has taught me for anything. I'm not actively in touch with anyone from my class but would like to see and/or talk to a few of you. Feel free to email and ask me whatever. This "classmates.com" thing is all new to me. I've never done online dating (and don't plan to). Basically I'm still me .. just a little more outgoing and fun (I think). Lots of great memories from high school and especially Chiefettes. Oh yeah, I still remember the march!!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you .. not ALL, but most!! Right now .. until my "life" settles back down .. I work at Citrus Park Mall in a very classy women's clothing store called Chico's. I just finished a "temp" job with a downtown law firm and found that I have more interest in uniforms than in attorneys .. anyone want to prove me wrong?

Take care to all of you .. looking forward to seeing what "this" brings to my path.

WOW. I was really surprised to read this today. When I first transfered to Chamberlain Simone was the first person I met and we stayed friends throughout high school, I feel bad that we lost track of each other throughout the years.

I am very saddened by the news of Simone's passing. It's hard to learn of deaths of individuals that you once admired and thought of so fondly. It's even harder to learn of such a tragic and unnecessary loss. Simone is someone I always thought had it all...I just wish she could have realized this as well. I can still see her in her chiefette attire, cheering on the crowd. She will be missed by all.

After reading this on Classmates.com early 2008 I contacted Simone and was reunited with the same person you just read about. The past year 2008 getting to know Simone was such a fun time and tickled our young memories. I was not able to see Simone face to face, but I loved to hear her laugh. My heart is so very heavy, I did not see this coming and wish I would have been able to see and reach out to a friend.

Hats off to you Anthony for this web site, Great job. With Simone and Anthony it has pushed me into getting to know and finding lost friends.

Does anyone know if there will be a memorial service for Simone?

Hey "Moneford"! You and me, senior year (especially) marching 9 to 5. Some of the most fun I had as a teen. Thanks for the memories!

I am sad that you were so sad.

But...
I will meet you again one day.....

Until then, thanks for being such a good friend during our high school years.

I was just placing a copy of Simone's memorial service in my bible and found a special note I had received from Simone in there. It makes me miss her that much more! I wish I could have reached her in that deeply sad place she found herself living in.

I just read Julie's note, and I did not know if anyone remembered our nickname for Moneford or Mone.

I am so saddend by her passing, but like Julie I hold faith that I will see her again one day!

Until then, Mone I love you!!!

Man, I am just so sad for her and her family. I grew up with Simone living behind us and we used to meet at the fence and talk. Our parents used to take turns taking us to school and picking us up. I tried several times to make contact but we never talked or got to catch up.
I hope her family can feel for her and her pain she must have never gotten over. I would hope that anyone who knew her will see what pain taking your life brings to all of the people you have had contact with in your life. May god ease all your sadness from your loss.

Guess we will catch up in the next life.

I am shocked and saddened by this news. My prayers are with her family.

I went to Lake Magdalene Elementary with Simone. She was so pretty. In high school she was absolutely beautiful. May she rest in peace.
