Marvin Butts (Johnson)

Marvin Lee Butts, Jr., 62, of San Diego, CA, passed away on February 23, 2018.  The funeral service will be held at a later date at Camp Butler in Springfield, IL.  Reverend John Thomas will be officiating.

Marvin was born in Chicago, IL on October 22, 1955, the son of Marvin Butts and Lewis & Betty Allen Johnson.

Marvin joined the U.S. Army after high school, where he spent 14 years stationed in various places in the United States and Germany.  He served during the first Gulf War.

Marvin is survived by one son, Dan Butts (Andrea) of Bremerton, WA; one daughter, Suzanne Butts of New York City, NY; one sister, Glenda (Kirk) Tabor of Champaign, IL; two brothers, James (Patricia) Butts and Russell (Wayna) Butts, both of Big Spring, TX; one aunt, Lori (Merwin) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, and several nieces, nephews & cousins.  Marvin was preceded in death by his parents & step-father, three uncles, two aunts, maternal & paternal grandparents, and several cousins.

He worked as a mechanic for many years before his death and was a member of the Lutheran faith.  He was an avid reader and listened to a variety of music, but his favorite band was Metallica.
