JoJo, as we called him 60 years ago, was my good friend since first grade. He loved baseball and became the manager of the ninth grade team. A wonderful memory for all of us who were on that team was our secret base-stealing sign that involved Joe.
Coach Birdsall didn’t want to give the signals himself because they can be stolen by opposing teams. So he had Joe give the sign, which was simply leaving his mouth open. It worked perfectly. I can remember as if it was yesterday, leading off a base and looking for that sign. Getting it was such a thrill.
Thanks for the great memories and friendship, Joe. See you again in the Field of Dreams.

Don't we all remember, "Hey , Are You Up for It?"
Joey was an inspiration to us all. Although he was an ASHACK and I was a VIKING, that did not keep us from being good friends.
May we all remember hin as a Good Guy.
