Lisa Russell (Motley)

Obituary for Mrs. Lisa Michelle Russell Motley

- On the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2014, Lisa Russell Motley, age 49, was escorted from her earthly life to her eternal home with the Lord. Lisa was born July 8, 1965 in High Point, NC to Stan and Donna Parris Russell. A resident of the Archdale/Trinity area her whole life, Lisa was a friend, a teacher, a bright smile and an encourager to countless people throughout our community. She was a vital part of the ministry of Archdale First Baptist Church. There she served as WMU Director, praised God in the choir, loved her church family and served the Lord with a JOY that now leaves a void which will never be filled.
Lisa carried that joy with her into all aspects of her beautiful life. She enjoyed spending any free time with her family and was a lover of books. She had even fulfilled her dream of writing by having some of her own pieces published. At John Lawrence Elementary School, her infectious smile impacted children there for many years. It has been said that “she looked after those kids as if they were her own.” While serving in the corporate world of law with her paralegal degree, she served Jesus with her words and actions. Then God took her career path to Baptist Children’s Homes of NC where she combined her love of people, children and Christ to serve at the Administrative Assistant to their Senior VP, Mr. Sam Barefoot. There she is remembered as “a team player in the truest sense of the word and brought joy to any endeavor she was a part of.”
In 1985, she married the love of her life, Scott Motley, who survives of the home. Also left to carry on her legacy are their sons, Tyler Motley and wife, Paige, of Asheboro, and Jacob Motley, of Archdale. Here to cherish their memories of Lisa are her mother, Donna P. Russell, of Trinity; her sisters, Angela R. Barrow and husband, Todd, and Amy R. Walker and husband, Mark, all of Trinity. She shared her joy abundantly with her nieces and nephews, Cameron and Brett Fields, Claire and Caitlyn Barrow, Bryant and Ben Walker. Jackson Motley, her first grandson, was blessed to have had Lisa as “Mimi”. She was preceded in death by her father, Stan Russell, just four months ago.
The name Lisa means “God is satisfied”. Lisa Motley had accomplished everything that God placed her in our lives for. Anyone who encountered her joy during her earthly walk is forever changed.
A service to celebrate the life of Lisa will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Mills Home Baptist Church 201 Idol Dr., Thomasville, NC 27360 with Samuel Barefoot and Rev. Robert W. Ferguson officiating with burial to follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 noon till service time. In lieu of flower, the family request that donations be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc., PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338.
