After Troy High, I attended Middlebury College. At the end of my junior year I married Ed Archer and moved to Washington DC so he could start Georgetown Law School. I graduated from The American University in DC with a math major, secondary education minor. I worked as a computer programmer (in 1959 when computers were as big as a house and we had to punch our own cards) for IBM until son David was born in 1960, followed by Stephen in 1963 and Heather in 1966.

Ed practiced law, and then became a Labor Law Professor at Indiana University Law School, Indianapolis, and a Labor Arbitrator. In 1978 I went back to school and received an MS in Psychology from Purdue University. I became a Medical Social Worker; working primarily with spinal cord injured and stroke patients.

Our children are wonderfully diverse – David is an Oceanographer at the University of Chicago, Stephen is Director of Bio-Medical Engineering for Neuropace, and Heather is a professional musician. All three are married, each has two children, so we have six grandchildren, two girls and four boys between the ages of ten and three.

I am a quilter and a knitter and have dabbled in many textile art forms. I have been employed in museum textile conservation work. I love to read and write, to travel and learn new things. I practice T’ai Chi Chih and Yoga and study drawing at the Indianapolis Art Center.

Does anyone but me remember the time Mr. Henry, who was in charge of these things, scheduled all the fire drills on the same day? Did I dream that?
