John DeFazio

DeFazio, John D. – THS 1955

SAND LAKE John D. DeFazio, 77, of Walk Road died Monday, February 3, 2014, at Van Rensselaer Manor North Greenbush after a long illness. Born in Troy, he was son of the late Nicola DeFazio and Isabel RotiRoti DeFazio and husband for 55 years of Alma Brimmer DeFazio. He had resided in Troy area most of his life and in Sand Lake since 1969 and was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1955. Mr. DeFazio was an elevator mechanic at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany for 42 years, retiring in 2000 and was a chef at many local upscale restaurants for 17 years. He was a member of the Emerald Athletic Club in Mt. Ida, a life member of the Brunswick Fish and Game Club and BASS and a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. John was a Navy veteran aboard the USS Essex out of Virginia Beach. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, John Michael (Wendy) DeFazio of Averill Park, David Anthony DeFazio of Troy, Deborah Anne (David) Minkler of Brunswick, Karen Marie DeFazio of Sand Lake, Joseph Nicholas (Niki) DeFazio of Sand Lake and Kimberly Anne DeFazio of Sand Lake; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased his siblings, Joseph and Nicholas DeFazio and Elizabeth Loccisano and Catherine Costa. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Friday, February 7 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Henry's Church, Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, Pastor. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of John D.
