Solomon ‘Sal’ Jabour
TROY - Solomon ‘Sal’ Jabour, 72, of Troy, passed into eternal life Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by his devoted and loving family. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Yamin) Jabour who both passed away at a very young age. He took care of his Dad for the last six months of his life and was left with his sister Diane to raise his sisters and brother. Sal was pre-deceased by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Patricia H. (Henning) Jabour, who passed away in November 2008.
Sal graduated from Troy High School and during that time he began his career at the young age of 14 working at Deets Market in Lansingburgh. He went on to work at Family Garden in Troy and then later in Schenectady. In 1960 Sal opened the Two-Way Food Mart in Troy and simultaneously owned and operated a seasonal gift and garden center on Pawling Avenue. For 20 years he serviced the local community at the Two-Way Food Mart and in 1979 he closed the food mart and focused his efforts on the gift and garden center. He also started a fresh produce ‘ready peel’ business in 1973, and worked with his family for many years. In 2001, Sal decided to retire, owning and operating his own businesses and took on two part-time jobs instead. Sal began working for Rensselaer County and Hannaford Brothers Supermarket in Wynantskill, where he has been for the past eight years.
Sal enjoyed fishing with his Dad, working and spending time with his wife and family. He was an amazing father and devoted husband. Sal is survived by his children Melissa Jabour (Shelly Strack), David (Stephanie) Jabour, Paul (Ann Marie) Jabour, Alicia (John) Riegert, Patricia ‘Pesha’ (Mark) King and Stephen (Leila) Jabour. He was the loving grandfather to Alexandria, Stephanie and David Jabour, Sarah and Abigail Jabour, John, Molly and Christian Riegert, Emily and Tanner King and Sophia Jabour. He is also survived by his five sisters and his brother Diane (the late John) Sacala, Elaine (the late Thomas) Mikacz, Marsha (William) Ernest, Rose Marie (William) Wertman, Helen (John) Dundon and Joseph (Kathryn) Jabour, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. The family would like to thank the Emergency Room, and ICU staff at Samaritan Hospital, along with the Eddy Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the utmost level of care given to Solomon.
