Douglas Kallenburg

Douglas Kallenburg, 74, devoted husband of Brenda P. Kallenburg for 50 years, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at home.


Born in Troy, N.Y. on Dec. 9, 1939, Mr. Kallenburg graduated with the class of 1957 from Troy High School, where he was an honor student, yearbook editor-in-chief, member of the tennis team and student council. 


Mr. Kallenburg wrote a thesis on individual retirement accounts at Rutgers University, from which he graduated in June of 1976. Starting as a proof clerk at Home Savings bank, Mr. Kallenburg enjoyed a successful career in the banking industry, working 21 years in commercial lending with HSBC (formerly Marine Midland Bank) prior to retiring in 2005. 


In his retirement, Mr. Kallenburg was a board member of the Capital District Community Loan Fund, a non-profit lender to other non-profits and to under-served and low income individuals. 


He also was actively involved with the Troy Rehabilitation & Improvement Program, taught night school classes, and hosted "straight talk", a financial blog for small business owners. 


Mr. Kallenburg enjoyed helping others in the community and contributed time to the North Greenbush public library and the Arts Center in Troy. He also enjoyed woodworking and built much of the furniture in his home. 


Mr. Kallenburg is survived by son Christopher Kallenburg, his wife Margaret Hudson and daughters Jennifer and Amanda, and son Eric Kallenburg, his wife Cheryl Kallenburg and daughters Jean and Rebecca. Mr. Kallenburg's wife Brenda predeceased him in 2009. 
Services will be private to the family. Contributions to the Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, Inc. or TRIP, 415 River St.reet, Troy, NY 12180 in memory of Mr. Kallenburg would be appreciated.
