Shawki Barakat

 


Shawki Joseph Barakat, 53, of Luella Road, died Saturday, May 15, 1999 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a long illness.  Born in Jaffa, Palestine, he was the son of Nada Amireh Barakat of Dayton, OH and the late Joseph E. Barakat and husband of Shirley Dopp Barakat of Latham.  A former Troy resident, he lived in Latham for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of Troy High School in 1964 and Siena College in 1968.  Mr. Barakat was employed for many years in the auto sales business as a salesman and sales manager.  He also owned and operated his own dealership, Barakat Auto Sales in Schenectady for several years.  He retired four years ago.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include a son, Joseph S. Barakat of Watervliet; four daughters, Susan L. Brakat of Latham, Kim L. Taylor of Ballston Lake, Karen L. Barakat of Latham and Michelle A. Farina of Ft. Plain, NY; a sister Betty Banna of Dayton, OH; six grandchildren, Adriana, Shalyn, Devvan, Dominick, Drew and Asley; several nieces and nephews and cousins.  Joe was predeceased by his sister Violet Lounsbury.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McLoughlin and Mason Funeral home, corner of 109th Street and 3rd Avenue, Lansinburgh.  Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.  Calling hours will be 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
