Carofano, Don A. HEMET, Calif. Don Anthony Carofano, loving husband and huggable dad and granddad, died December 29, 2017. He was 70. Born February 24, 1947, in Troy, N.Y., Don is son of the late Dominick and Mary (Klee) Carofano. He attended the SUNY College of Technology in Alfred, N.Y., followed by Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., where he earned a bachelor's degree, and, finally, Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., graduating with a master's degree in engineering. Don worked at General Electric, a career that spanned more than three decades and across two cities: Schenectady, N.Y. and Marietta, Ga. Don retired in 2007 and moved to Hemet, Calif. in 2011 where he resided for six years. Don is survived by his wife, Diana (Podeswa) Carofano; his three children, Jennifer Carofano-Rosen of Los Angeles, Calif., Beth Magin of Torrance, Calif. and Justin Carofano of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; his three grandchildren, Everett Rosen and Arya and Cora Magin; and his brother, Garry Carofano. He will be remembered for his kind and calm disposition, his silly sense of humor and his love for fuzzy cats, adventures big and small, and family above all. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 16, at The Academy of the Holy Names Chapel at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at the Student Commons at The Academy of the Holy Names; both are located at 1075 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY, 12208. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to the Trauma Fund at Renown Regional Medical Center or the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission.

The news of Don's death (car accident) came from Barb Schumann Ives.  Don's wife Diana is in the hospital.  Don & Diana had just spent Christmas with their children and grandchildren in the Reno area.

I will post an obituary or other pertinent information as soon as I find or receive some.  Linda

I am heartbroken and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of my Dad. He was a kind, extremely generous, funny (in his engineer sort of way) and a consistently supportive awesome person in every phase of my life. As a kid he was fun, we used to share a hidden stash of potato chips in his cellar office with me. As a teenager he was understanding - he pretty much just left me alone unless I asked for help, generally with the computer printer that was always running off track, which is all a teen could ask for! Right into adulthood he cheered on every endeavor I chose to tackle, while lending advise when asked. I am so happy our girls got the chance to know Don too, which is what he preferred being called to grandad - lol.

The only other thing I could have asked for, is for him to still be here, which was, unfortunately, not up to he or I. I love you Dad and miss you dearly each day.

We did, however, get to spend five whole days together in Mammoth for a belated birthday gift from all of us for he and my Mom's 70th birthday. He loved the mountains and my Mom loves the snow. Here is a photo of that last full day there. So much fun!
