Matot, Nancy J. TROY Nancy J. Almy Matot, 61, died on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Samaritan Hospital. Nancy was born in Troy on December 26, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Guy and Inez Coonradt Almy. She was educated in Troy public schools and was a graduate of Troy High School. A dedicated mother and home-maker, Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her sense of humor, generosity and selflessness. She provided inspiration to many who witnessed her dedication to her son, Jason. Her support, encouragement and assistance in helping him manage his special needs allowed him to gain independence, participate in the Special Olympics and, in turn, enabled him to assist in caring for her at the end of her life. Nancy loved her two grandchildren and each year would treat them, individually, to a "Grandma Day," a special day she set aside to shower them with her attention, treats and gifts. Nancy was truly loved and cherished and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Christ Church United Methodist in Troy. Nancy is survived by her three children, Hillarie Sicko, Jason and Grant Matot, all of Troy; her grandchildren, Taylor and Connor; her brother and sister, Guy Almy of Fla. and Patty Goodness Slattery of Speigletown; her niece and nephews, Shona Goodness-Miller, Eric Goodness and Michael Almy; as well as several other nieces and nephews. Funeral service on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Visiting hours at the funeral home are on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. Contributions in Nancy's memory may be made to the Special Olympics, Attn: Web Gifts, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036-3604.
