Russell was a great guy. He always took a lot of flak for being overweight but he really couldn't have been a nicer person. He was also a pretty good singer. I remember one talent show where he performed "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow which I'm sure was considered incredibly uncool at the time. But he really nailed it and did a great job. We hung out a bit when we were in elementary school and I hate to see that he has passed on. Does anyone have any more information regarding his death?

I HAD WORKED AT ST JOHN AND SEEN HIM IN THE HOSPITAL. A CO WORKER WAS A EKG TECH AND SHE SAID HE WAS THE NICEST PATIENT SHE EVER HAD. HE OBVIOUSLY WAS HAVING HEART PROBLEMS B/C OF HIS WEIGHT. I REMEMBERED WHEN HE CODED AND THE CO WORKER TOLD ME ABOUT IT. IT WAS JUST AWFUL THAT IT HAPPENED TO A GREAT GUY LIKE RUSSELL. HE WAS A FUNNY AND TALENTED GUY.

That sucks. Russell was dealt a crappy hand in regards to his weight/health. His mother was a very large woman. His dad though was a small man. Russell had two little sisters that were twins and they were both small. I can't remember any other siblings.

Do you remember how long ago it was that he died?

That's so sad! Russell truly was a very kind gentleman. I hate to hear that his weight broke his heart. :(

I do have a few good memories of Russell, from band. I remember when my step-brother came to live with us for a few years, and he played tuba, too. They were our only 2 tuba players that year. Mr. Hill wanted one of them on each end of the percussion section, during marching band. It was supposed to be symmetrical, but I couldn't help but giggle, because Russell was not only big, but he was tall, too! And on the other end was my scrawny little step-brother - 5'4" and about 100 pounds, soaking wet. LOL!

Russell did SO much to help my step-brother, during that time. He was ALWAYS helping others! I hate that he had to leave us, so young. :(

I remember Russell being one of the funniest guys in band, he helped make those long mornings go by with a smile.

I am so sad to hear about Russell. He was always such a nice guy and he was a wonderful singer. I was in choir with him and he was always sweet. I am so sorry to hear that he left us so young.
