20 Yr Planning Party

 

Meeting #1

We are in the very early stages of planning our 20-year class reunion. The first meeting of the Reunion Committee was held on April 15th. In attendance were David Woodall, Dionne Ray, Rachel Merritt Hulse, Pam Wegner Daigle, Kristi Hargrove Ogden, Melissa McWhirt Hefley, Rochelle Merritt Hampton, Leslie Tedrick Hampton, Roxanne Logan Bailey and Johnny Bailey. How much progress was made depends upon which side of the table you were sitting and how many margaritas you consumed. Seriously though, it was a lot of fun and we did get some plans started.

As for dates, we're thinking about the middle of September. Getting such a late start as we have, we're not sure we could get something ready by this summer. Also it seems summers are busy with family activities, vacations, etc. Here's a rough outline of the plans:

Friday - an "icebreaker" gathering at a local restaurant/watering hole. Very casual. (Sub-committee = Kristi Hargrove Ogden and Leslie Tedrick Hampton)

Saturday - the "main event" - we're thinking something less expensive and less formal than the 10yr. reunion. We don't want to limit people with an expensive ticket, formal attire, etc. We want people to dress up or down - whatever you want to do. The venue is still being determined, but will probably be in close proximity to a hotel for out of towners and those who want to make a night out of it. The event will include an hor'dourves buffet, cash bar, music/DJ, dancing, recognitions...etc. (Sub-committee = Rachel Merritt Hulse, Roxanne Logan Bailey, Pam Wegner Daigle and Dionne Ray)

Sunday - a "family day" - afternoon picnic at the park with softball or volleyball, kids activities, etc. (Sub-committee = Melissa McWhirt Hefley and Rochelle Merritt Hampton)

Each sub-committee has information gathering assignments and we're planning to meet again in two weeks (April 29th 7:00 - place to be determined). If you have an interest in helping out with any of these events, please contact a committee member via their profile. As plans develop, there will be more details to attend to and I'm sure the help will be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who's offered their help so far. One thing EACH of us can do is to spread the word about this site and the plans for a reunion this year. Since we are not using a Reunion Service (as cost saving effort) this site is our primary way of reaching as many classmates as we can. Tell everyone you can about the site and invite them to sign on.

The next meeting of the Reunion Planning Committee will be held at Mexico Lindo again on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00.  This time we're gonna try to hold back on the cocktails until business is taken care of!!

Meeting #2

The second official meeting of the Reunion Planning Committee was held April 29, 2008. In attendance were: David Woodall (and “Mel”), Derek and April (Sook) Greer, Todd Roy, Scott Whitaker, Jeff Anderson, Melissa McWhirt Hefley, Rachel Merritt, Hulse, Roxanne Logan Bailey, Pam Wegner Daigle, Kristi Hargrove Ogden, Tina Koehring McFee, Dionne Ray and Sandy Deardorff Bayles.

The mood was more subdued, but I don’t think Mexico Lindo was so glad to see us again. Anyway, we’re still trying to nail down a venue for our Saturday night event. The Main Event sub-committee has done some research and will be meeting soon to finalize those plans and everything else will be planned around it. Tina Koehring is taking the lead to get some class shirts that will be available for order from the web site. Also, look for a new survey on whether you plan to attend the reunion solo or with a date.
