Todd Gribben, New York City Interior Designer and Hudson, NY Antiques Dealer, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 25, 1961, to parents Thomas Louis Gribben and Patsy Ann (Wise) Young. A Christmas baby, he brought the gift of a ready smile and joy in life to all who knew him. He also brought a sense of humor and love of language and local idioms that was pure Oklahoma. He graduated from Edison High School in 1980 and remained a proud native of Tulsa.
He began studies at the University of Oklahoma, but soon migrated to New York City where he attended The Fashion Institute of Technology. He become involved in the world of interior design and worked as a Senior Designer for two prestigious NY based design firms, Robert Couturier Inc. and then Bunny Williams, Inc.
In 2006 Todd established Todd Gribben, Inc. and in 2007 he opened Gris, his flagship interior design and antique gallery in Hudson, NY. Gris became known as a show room for an eclectic set of unique items that celebrated the making of beautiful things. Todd had an ability to identify treasures, whether they were from the Paris Flea Market, needlework from America’s past, folk art or the work of contemporary artisans. In 2011 Todd also began designing and producing his own line of furnishings, including tables, mirrors, lamps, and pillows.
As a designer Todd was able to work across styles and budgets to create unique environments. He was known for his ability to listen and nurture his clients. As a person Todd was a bright light, and will be remembered for his considerable charm and enthusiasm in addition to his talent.
Todd Steven Gribben died on July 14, 2018 in New York City. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Gribben, his mother Patsy Ann (Wise) Young and brother Thomas Joseph Gribben. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Tim and Becky Gribben, his partner Steve Isoz, his nieces and nephew and numerous cousins and a large community of friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held in Todd's honor 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel
