School Story

Sat beside Leon Russel (Russel Bridges) in music theory and harmony class. I spent the night at his house and he spent the night at my house. Lost track of him after I went in the Air Force.
I played in a trombone trio my senior year at Will Rogers. We played at civic events in Tulsa. We showed up at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church one evening to play a gig. We were warming up backstage when David Barnett said "Oh my God!" I asked him what was the matter. He replied "I forgot my music!" I handed him my music for the second trombone parts for the 6 or 7 pieces we were going to play. He asked "but who will play the first part?" I told him I would play the first part, even though I had never played the first parts before. Fortunately, I had the ability to play by ear, and was able to play the first part of all of the numbers in spite of the fact that I had never played them before. David was dumbfounded that I could do that. :-)

Is anyone interested in forming a WRHS Alumni Band? We could play at alumni events at the school, and maybe play an annual concert. I played in the WRHS band in 1958-1959. If interested, my phone number is 918 742-6146. If I don't answer, please leave a message. My email is k5wg@swbell.net

I had neck surgery on 13 April this year. Had three herniated discs that had to be fused. Four days before the surgery, I passed out from severe pain. I was in a hard neck brace for three months, and in a soft collar for an additional two weeks. Had to sleep in a recliner, which got my lower back fired up to the point of severe spasms. Got the spasms under control with muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory medication. Doing much better now. Thankfully, the neck pain is gone, and my life is getting back to normal.

Hi Kenneth: Thank you for your military service. I did four years in the Air Force. Should have made it a career like you! But after four years of globe trotting, I was ready to get back to Tulsa.

The great teachers I had at Will Rogers, and the great students I interacted with made a significant difference in my life. I treasure the memories made there.
