SANDRA B. BULLOCK HAMMACK

JUNE 11, 1952 – APRIL 17, 2017

Sandra Bullock Hammack, age 64, of Tuscaloosa, died April 15, 2017, at her daughter’s house in Milledgeville, Georgia. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Memory Hill Gardens Mausoleum Chapel Of Memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles C. Bullock, Jr. and Betty Bullock. Survivors include her husband, Jay Halpern; children Jennifer Hammack (Eric Luca), Russell Hammack (Natasha); her sisters Sherry Mitchell (Allen), Nancy Leonard (Robby) and Jackie Anthony-Gonzalez; grandchildren, Erica Luca and Reagan and Riley Hammack; nephew Rob Leonard (Valerie) niece Tara Whitaker (Chris) and special niece LeAnne Mitchell.

Sandy was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she graduated from Tuscaloosa High School (1970) and the University of Alabama, School of Nursing (1983). She worked for the VA Hospital as a nurse and then became Quality Manager. For years, she was an active member of Northport Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She raised two children, Jennifer and Russell Hammack, in Northport with her ex-husband Donald Hammack (Hamm). She was a two-time survivor of brain cancer. It was a hard-fought battle that lasted almost twenty years. She was an avid world traveler. She will be greatly missed by her cat Chow.

Honorary pallbearers are Eric Luca (son-in-law), Peter Huver (family friend), Betty McCaffrey (family friend), Sue and Huey Deslattes (lifelong neighbors), all former friends and employees of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Johns Hopkins University, Department of Neurology, 550 N Broadway, 7th Floor, Baltimore, MD, 21205 with a note indicating the donation is in the memory of Sandy to benefit the Neuro-Oncology Division.
