Carol J. Gillespie passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her loving friends. Carol was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late William J. and Charlotte Miller Gillespie. Carol grew up in the Cincinnati area, and the family moved to Upper Arlington in 1960. She earned a BA in history from the University of Pittsburgh and worked in real estate for several years. Because of her love of math, she became a loan originator for Union Savings Bank. Carol was active in the UA Alumni Association and chairman of many of the UAHS Class of 1965 reunions.

Carol was always there, organizing, organizing the reunion events. I thought passed through my mind on Tuesday, May 6, about Carol, because I was using one of the 40th reunion black bags to carry stuff to my classroom and home. Carol gave me a number of the left over bags as I told her how much I loved them; they are just the right size for school materials. And then on May 8 I read she had passed. I was very saddened to learn of her passing. Carol, you are missed.

A real loss to family, friends and especially to her UAHS classmates. We were fortunate indeed to have someone of Carol's tenacity and good cheer to keep our far-flung community connected in every way she could. She had a zest for life and for friends old and new that, though missed, will be remembered with smiles and appreciation. Well done, Carol, and thank you very, very much.
