James N. Dearien II (Jim Dearien Ii)

I was blessed to have been able to meet with Rich back in September just prior to his beginning his regular exercise routine at the Antler's Hotel. No doubt his body was failing him, but his mind was a sharp as a tack. That  wry smile and dry sense of humor, but always uplifting. He was a great and patient mentor to many young men.   Rest in Peace Coach! We'll miss you!

I couldn’t agree with Jim Dearien more.......This was a man of quiet excellence. Starting his athletic career at UCLA, Coach Gugat never slowed down until he was inflicted with Parkinson’s Disease. I got to be quite good friends with Rich, his wife Carole, and his three daughters through the years. Again, he was a quiet leader and lover of his family.  His dry sense of humor was attractive to many cadets, and his unassuming style of leadership influenced many young men and women.  RIP Coach........Enjoy your new body and look forward to seeing you again!
