I've been rembering David and wanted to share those memories. He is not forgotten. David and I were friends and neighbors. Our families were close and we always had a great 4th of July party sponsored by his uncle who was my Dad's best friend. We grew up together. His sister, my sister, and I spent many hours playing together. He sometimes would play house with us. Of course, he was the Dad and went off to work, so we didn't see much of him. No dressing baby dolls or having tea. He was all male. As soon as he could he had a paper route. He was the first kid I knew to have a 3-speed bike.

He loved engines and cars. From 6th grade on he had some kind of engine and later a car that he was always working on. He was so smart, he could get good grades without studying (I was jealous since nothing came easily to me) but in high school the cars took presidence. I still see his Mother when I get to Dayton.

David had many friends and I hope someone would share their memory of him. I have so many more but would love to hear yours.

i remember riding my bicycle over to david's house one summer to visit when i was about 12 or 13. he was always working on a bike or something and that day he was painting his bike. he had a schwinn with one of those big shock-absorbing springs on the front forks by the handlebars. he had sanded his bike and hung it on his mom's laundry line outdoors to spray paint and let dry in the sun. he didn't so much talk about doing things as he just did them. this was a characteristic of david's that i admired.
that day he also had a 45 he was playing on his record player. it was something he said was called "doo-wop" music. i loved it. great vocal harmonizing. a sort of street music of its day.
david seemed to me to go after what he liked in life with a determination we could all learn something from. a nice, unpretentious guy.
