Bob Smith

The following was sent by Bob's sister Betty Smith Thayer:

Bob Smith was my brother. He died December 10, 1971 unexpectedly. He left school in January of his senior year to join the Air Force. He was stationed in Formosa and worked on aircraft engines. He married Darlene Nella Brown, also a member of the Class of 64, on May 9th 1964. They had one child, Robert Irwin Smith, Jr. (Butler Class of 83). They divorced in 1968. Bob got out of the service in 1968. He stayed in Texas where he was stationed last. He was an ace mechanic, so he quickly found a job working for Mickey Thompson, the race car driver. He returned to Dayton, in 1970, and stayed with our parents on Little York Road. He was married briefly to Pamela Swabb, from Piqua. He was the manager of a Bonded Oil Station in Sidney. He also worked at Ray's Shell in Trotwood. Bob was an avid fan of Rock and Roll, (had a huge 45 record collection) and a great dancer, and he was a wonderful son and brother. We still miss him to this day. His son, Robert I. Smith, Jr. lives in Huber Heights, and has two sons, Zachary Robert and Gerald Nelson Gebhart Smith. And his legacy carries on . . .
