In Memory

Gloria Esposito (Bischoff)

Added "Miss Gloria" to our class list as a guest so that I could put the notice from the Dayton Daily News on our Memory Page.  Everyone who was in Kickline may or may not know her history with the Kickline.  The article is from the December 17th,  2017 paper as follows, and I quote:

"The Vandalia-Butler staff, students and community are mourning the loss of a special Aviator, Gloria Bischoff (Esposito) who died December 3, 2017 at age 80.

She was not only a Butler graduate but also the founder of the Butler Kickline.

Looking for a way to add additional extra-curricular options for females during the 1950s, she had the idea to start a school dance team.

The first Kickline team consisted of 16 girls and debuted in 1952.  Sixty-five ears later, the Butler Kickline is considered a Butler varsity dance team and accompanies the Butler Marching Band at football games.  parades and pep assemblies.

The line also performs at home basketball games and various other community exhibitions."  End quote

I know many girls and boys growing up in Vandalia remember "Miss Gloria" as  dance teacher.  Her greatest joy was teaching all forms of dance.  She was an energetic person and a joy to know.  I hope that classmates that knew her and took dance lessons from her will leave a note and memories of her.

While I didn't know Gloria Esposito Bischoff, the kickline is one of my best memories of high school. It was so much fun performing and more than that, it formed the core of my high school friendships!
